The soul is the essence of any one or any thing. The “spiritual soul” is that aspect of soul through which we experience the divine, the mystery of life, a greater whole. It is the bridge between our personality, in its physical manifestation, and the divine.
When we are connected with and moved by these aspects of soul, life has purpose. Living that purpose brings meaning to what we do and connects us to a larger whole. Meaning can make sense of the difficult times that inevitably challenge us. Facing the challenge leads to greater growth and a wider and deeper perspective on life. Being directed by our soul purpose is often revealed as a passion, is inherently joyful, and is of service to others.
Soul always encourages us to manifest in new and creative ways; no sooner do we settle into a way of being then we are ‘asked’ to open to new ways and to new perceptions. Soul seeks relationships that are equal, collaborative and synergistic – soul partnerships. When moving with Soul, we are authentic and authors of our own lives.
Many people in our present Western culture are disconnected, disembodied, from this felt sense of being – so disconnected that many are also not aware of this inner energy and sense of direction that has been variously named as the “still voice within,” “inner teacher,” “inner guide,” “true self,” “inner light,” and “spark of the divine,” to name a few from some spiritual traditions.
The reasons for this disconnection are many including patriarchal and societal conditioning, childhood neglect, birth trauma and abandonment, unresolved trauma including sexual abuse and PTSD, and parentified relationships where a child fills the emotional needs of one or more parents, to name a few. Reconnecting to the soul allows the soul to guide the life path. Healing our wounds allows each of us to reconnect to our own Soul-Guide.
In my practice I offer Family Constellations, both individually and in groups, relationship counselling, healing of sexual and childhood abuse, domestic violence, and PTSD, addictions, reconnecting with a body intelligence, and untangling ancestral and early family dynamics, all of which can be doorways to reconnecting with the soul or authentic self.

Bert Hellinger once described what he did as “joining what has been separated.” While healing in the constellation field is one of joining disconnected parts, such as fractured relationships, victim-perpetrator dynamics, and ancestral entanglements, the constellation field is embedded in a world-wide patriarchal culture that constantly separates, operating on a binary of either-or that dismisses a spectrum of differences.
This article questions patriarchal biases in facilitating constellations.

This article is a response to the January 2025 Trump executive order and the April 2025 UK Supreme Court judgment that there are only two sexes. These decisions effect 1% of the population, such as intersex and transgender, who are excluded from legal protections.
On Wednesday 5th October 2022, I presented information together with examples, demonstrations, and a participatory constellation, to illustrate the individual and systemic influences of healthy and toxic shame.

While this course is focused on learning about the principles of Family and Systemic Constellations and on building facilitation skills, these principles and skills are helpful in working in other fields besides family and systemic constellations, and in life in general. The emphasis on personal growth and the underlying issues that affect all of us as humans leads to a wider and deeper perspective and understanding of the human experience and a more compassionate stance.
